Brazil is already the third largest computer market in the world
PC sales grew 12% in Brazil in 2011, reaching 15.4 million units. The number puts the country in the position of third largest market in the world, behind China and the United States. Data are from IDC's quarterly report on the Brazilian market, disclosed today.
The figures also indicate that Brazilians bought a computer every 2 seconds in 2011. Luciano Crippa, research manager at IDC Brazil, says sales could have been even larger. What hurt were the floods in Thailand, which flooded plants components and hampered their attainment by PC manufacturers, especially smaller ones.
Because of this, growth was lower in the fourth quarter, when they were sold 4.2 million computers in the country, 10% more than the same period of 2010. The proportion of the total notebook units continues to grow. In the fourth quarter, notebooks accounted for 59.2% of sales.
